Take the lead

5 November 2007

The features in the latest issue of SM all have one thing in common – an awareness of the importance of leadership.

At SM’s first roundtable debate, which explored the future of the profession, participants agreed they needed to take the lead to market procurement better to attract more talent and raise its profile. Meanwhile, purchasing chief at Dutch telecoms firm KPN Willem van Oppen describes how he lead a turnaround of the function’s fortunes and new CIPS president Ron Jarman has chosen leadership as his theme for the year.

But while all might agree it’s important, do you know how to put it into action? What does being a leader mean and where do you start?
