Live at the annual ISM conference in St. Louis, Missouri

6 May 2008

They do things a little different here in the US.

For example this is the first conference I have ever attended where we have started by standing for the singing of the national anthems (of both the US and Canada) - beautiful renditions, as it happens, by St. Louis native Erin Bode.

It’s also the first time I have been to an event where members of the military (current or former) were asked to stand, and were then given a rousing round of applause by the rest of the audience.

I have also never attended a conference where, with Survivor’s Eye of the Tiger ringing out across the exhibition hall, a cloud of balloons dropped from the ceiling, akin to the winning moment of a US political contest, to advertise the dawn of …

… a new purchasing qualification.

Yes, you did read that correctly.

Only in America, as they say.
