Consultants get an early Christmas present

21 December 2009
Buyers will have awoken this morning to find a proverbial lump of coal in their stocking with the implementation of the new Remedies Directive. The goal of the rules is to make public sector contracts more attractive to suppliers, therefore increasing competition and getting better value for taxpayers. It will also make it easier for vendors to challenge contracts if they feel aggrieved because they did not win. The consequence of this will probably be a lot of worried public sector purchasers and a heap more paperwork to make sure processes are compliant and foolproof. On the other hand, it’s a lovely early Christmas present for law firms and consultants who can advise on the new rules.
