According to this story in the Financial Times, the sale of vegetable seeds have increased up to 30 per cent this year as consumers look to cut costs by growing their own crops.
US firm Burpee, which supplies to retailers such as Home Depot, has reported a dramatic jump in sales of carrot, tomato and pepper plant seeds.
George Ball, chairman of the company said: "Not only has demand not returned to normal but it has wildly increased. It is just like a bonanza."
