Procurement misses the chance to explain itself

2 February 2009

In some ways it was disappointing to hear Total’s HR manager come on the Today programme to discuss the Lindsey Oil Refinery wildcat strikes.

Surely the procurement manager would have been a more appropriate choice?

While the dispute does surround the use of foreign workers, and the obvious personnel issues involved, Bob Emerson, the HR manager in question, spent most of the time discussing purchasing-related issues such as the firm’s tendering process and how it awards contracts.

This would have been an excellent opportunity for procurement to grasp the spotlight and explain to the wider world what it contributes to a business.
