There was the news this week
that data and information about 250,000 medieval soldiers was to be put online.
The profiles include salary details, sickness records and details of who got knighted. The records also show how money was spent and if the government agreed to make the payments.
Dr Adrian Bell from the University of Reading told the BBC: "The service records survive because the English exchequer had a very modern obsession with wanting to be sure that the government's money was being spent as intended."
So somethings never change - except perhaps public sector spend analysis was more detailed in 1369 ...
