The OGC takes a hit

10 November 2009
“Fourteen of 16 departmental commercial directors believe OGC has done little to address skills gaps within their department.” This was the view cast by the National Audit Office in its most recent review. A striking finding indeed, especially considering that building public sector procurement skills is one of the main objectives of the OGC (which pointed out that departments are responsible for their own skills). It is also largely in contrast to some of the discussions I have had with public sector commercial directors. Many have praised the work of the OGC, but perhaps their views are different when they hold a private audience. Either way, it's not good news for the sector which has demanding efficiencies to achieve.
