The high price of social networking websites

27 October 2009
This report claims that UK businesses lose £1.4 billion every year because staff slack off on social networking sites. It is thought employees use the sites for up to 40 minutes a week for personal means. Twitter was highlighted as a particular area of concern by the report. Organisations have not latched on to how damaging it is to productivity and few have issued rules on when staff can log-on to the site. Twitter is not all about frivolity however. If you're on the hunt for a new job, it's worth punching the word procurement into the site's search bar. I guarantee you will see something of interest. SM uses Twitter every day, posting up the latest purchasing and supply chain stories. It helps drive web traffic to this very site - a benefit my boss is not going to argue with.
