Standard of service

8 July 2010
Jeremy Webster, Chair of the CEN UK Project CommitteeThe British Standards Institution (BSI) is participating in a European project to create good practice guidelines to improve business relationships between buyers and suppliers of services. Management consultancy is one of the first major sectors to develop a European service standard. Representatives from the management consultancy industry in more than 20 countries have contributed to the draft, which has just been published for consultation. To ensure the standard meets the needs of the procurement community we are keen to gather feedback and suggestions for improvements. In particular we would be interested in hearing from buyers responsible for professional business services spend within their organisations. It is recognised procurement functions are becoming increasingly influential in how supplier selection decisions are made across the consulting landscape and it is hoped the procurement profession will welcome this opportunity to participate in the debate about “what good should look like”. In the UK, the development of the standard is being led by BSI with participants from a wide range of stakeholder groups, including CIPS, the Institute of Business Consulting, the Management Consultancies Association, the Chartered Management Institute and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants. Anyone can provide feedback and make comments through BSI’s online draft review system. All feedback must be received by 30 September 2010 so it can be included in the UK submission to CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, in October 2010. The standard is scheduled to be published during 2011. If you have any questions about the standard, or would like to nominate your organisation to join the BSI project team to play an active role in shaping the standard, please contact Bob Stratton or call 020 8996 7241. * Jeremy Webster is chair of the CEN PC381 UK Project Committee
