Today the Cabinet is off to Yorkshire
for the UK coalition government’s first meeting outside London.
Doing this costs around £200,000 a time, for security, transport and accommodation and the like. And there was much griping on the radio this morning as to whether the government should be spending this sort of money, considering the cuts it has just imposed.
Number 10 says it will be keeping costs as low as possible, but when a meeting such as this can essentially render the effort of saving the same amount of money in an e-auction or contract renegotiation pointless, perhaps they need to think again.
