A question of savings

20 October 2011
The latest CPO Agenda debate takes place tonight in London (it’s free to come along, and there’s still time to register if you fancy some post-work networking drinks followed by a Q&A with a selection of top CPOs – click here for more details). The topic is The Cost Cutting Summit: How buyers can get more spend under management, make savings and affect the bottom line. During the panel discussion at the CIPS Conference two weeks ago there was a consensus that the profession needs to move away from just saving money to add greater value to the business. However, it was also said that finding savings should be expected of you as a procurement professional. And – this point was raised too – that making savings continues to be the primary priority for buyers  and for finance directors. It will be interesting to see what advice the CPOs on tonight’s panel will offer to manage this compromise between achieving what is expected, and demonstrating procurement can be more than just an organisation’s axe man.
