Not only is Team GB raking in the medals, we’re enjoying showcasing all the places where events are happening and welcoming sports fans from around the world. It’s actually quieter, too. If reports are to be believed, there are currently about 300,000 fewer people in the capital as locals have gone away or are working from home, which makes it much calmer for those who remain. And what a difference a year makes. As Ultimo entrepreneur Michelle Mone pointed out to me yesterday (read the full interview in the September issue of SM): “This time last year, the London riots were going on. Now everyone’s upbeat and happy about the Olympics. The whole event has really inspired me.” In her view, business performance is linked to personal fitness. “A fit body and a healthy mind really help the business. I was overweight for 10 years and it affected me, so I know it from experience. Exercise is now to me like drinking water; it is part of my routine. If you’re unfit you won’t be able to deal with stress.” She wishes more people would take an hour out of their day to do something active. “Whether it’s running or even walking, it really helps clear the mind.
