Here comes the sun

25 May 2012
Rebecca Ellinor, managing editor, Supply ManagementThe sunshine has finally arrived in the UK and in addition to sweat-filled tube lines, the appearance of pale limbs and a boost in takings for ice cream sellers it means one thing – an increase in skiving. Reports this morning include interviews with college students who had ditched a day of study for the beach and uptake in those calling in sick – suspicious or what? Their view is ‘you’ve got to make the most of it while you can’. But it’s not just the weather that prompts those in the UK to bunk off. A survey by Kronos has found employees here feel less guilty about skipping work to watch sport than any other nation surveyed. Football is the sport most likely to cause people to be absent from work in the UK, which could mean that Euro 2012 will have an impact on absence too. Have you ever skipped work to watch sport or lie on the beach? Anonymous answers are accepted…
