When it comes to your career, money isn’t everything but it certainly helps. So today I’ve decided to summarise some of the highlights from the past year concerning purchasers’ pay.
Junior managers are on the up:
This year’s CIPS/Croner Salary Survey
found that pay for junior procurement managers has increased by 2 per cent compared with last year, suggesting that now is a good time to preach the virtues of procurement to graduates.
Buyers can turn their hand to anything:
A recent survey of 600 supply chain professionals by JAM Recruitment found that 93 per cent
would feel confident moving to an equivalent role in a different sector. The main motivation? More money. So if you’re looking for a nicer car, keep an eye out for pharmaceutical, or oil and gas procurement jobs.
Letters after your name puts money in the bank:
Both the CIPS/Croner and this year’s ITM salary surveys found that in addition to injecting some extra gravitas to your email signature, completing CIPS qualifications boosts your salary. CIPS-qualified respondents to the first survey were paid on average £2,000 more than their unqualified counterparts, while in the travel buyers’ survey, the letters bank you an extra £2,500
. That’s making education pay.
Money can take you to the other side of the world:
According to DSJ Partners, more than half of buyers would be willing to relocate to another country in search of a bump in pay and a jump-start to their career progression
Global category leaders can pick up the tab:
At 140k+, whoever gets this position
will have no trouble picking up the first round of drinks, although as it’s based in Geneva, best not to leave the card behind the bar.
