"Today is the start of Volunteers' Week, which recognises the valuable contribution that volunteers make in their communities across the UK. This year, CIPS is celebrating Volunteers' Week for the first time and in doing so we would like to thank our volunteers for their time and valuable contribution.
"CIPS is fortunate to have over 600 member volunteers who operate as our ambassadors across all regions of the world, across time zones, across different sectors and in a myriad of roles.
"Whether you are a long-standing advocate, have just started volunteering, or have made some moves towards contributing your time and expertise to support the procurement community, I would like to express my gratitude on behalf of CIPS, for all of your energy, enthusiasm and time that you contribute. You all play a huge part in the development and support of a rich and diverse procurement community, which is built on a passion for our profession, on expertise, and helping to shape the future of procurement.
"Your actions really matter. Not just to CIPS, but to the professionals of the future who learn from you, to your peers who are inspired by you, to your own organisation which sees your value, and to your own development in having new experiences and meeting new people. A sense of belonging and creating the kind of community we want to be in is just the icing on the cake.
"As a huge sports fan may I quote Olympic champion diver Greg Louganis, who said, 'Never underestimate your ability to make someone else's life better - even if you never know it.' The spirit of volunteering is about generosity, about inspiration and in keeping with the reason that CIPS exists – the public good.
"So my heartfelt thanks go out to you and for your actions big and small. Every contribution is valued and every one of you is appreciated."
