Assistant Secretary (Acting) Procurement Policy Branch
Department of Finance
What’s the biggest challenge you have faced as a woman in business to date?
I tend to view challenges as opportunities. Opportunity to learn a new skill, opportunity to engage with a difficult stakeholder or opportunity to share an experience, all of which contribute to learning something about ourselves and others.
Who has inspired you (male or female)?
Mostly my parents. My Dad volunteered through his life including up until a couple years ago on the national board of Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. While our interests are different, it is the role he could bring as a volunteer that attracted me to giving back to the procurement profession through the ACT CIPS regional committee.
What do you wish you’d known when you started out and/ or what advice would you give your younger self?
Do only things that bring you joy as there’s no point doing something, be it work or play, that you do not enjoy. Make every day count. Have fun and a laugh.
What are the character traits of successful women and/ or what do you think makes a good leader?
Do you have a favourite quote or statement that sums up your approach to life?
People will forget what you said,
People will forget what you did,
But people will never forget how you made them feel.
What do you #ChooseToChallenge?
Collectively, we can create an inclusive and more gender-equal world.
