You may be aware; the Australian Government ratified the Kyoto Protocol on 3 December 2007, and became a full member at the end of March 2008. The first step is the new National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Act 2007.
The ratification of the Kyoto Protocol commits Australia to complying with the Protocol's many obligations and it is anticipated that this will lead to new environmental legislation and the amendment of current legislation. Importantly, the legislation is likely to establish a national emissions trading scheme by 2010.
