RFID tagging is a form of Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC) technology, where data on a particular item is stored on a tag.
Supply chain vulnerability, sustainability and technology are important drivers in global business. In the United Kingdom, the retail industries have been early adopters of radio frequency identification technology (RFID). In this document a basic explanation of the technology is given, with a more detailed analysis later using case studies, to discuss the strategic and operational benefits to be gained by the appropriate use of RFID technology. Consideration is given to factors currently limiting the adoption of RFID, and what trends might emerge in industry.
