It is an ideal choice if you live in an area where there is little or no tuition provision, or just if you prefer to study at your own pace and in your own environment.

Distance learning allows you to:

		Study where you want, when you want - get your studies to work around your work and family commitments

You can also choose to study CIPS qualifications without support from an approved study centre, using CIPS study resources including sample papers, study guides and eLearning. We also have active branches and social media networks that you can join for additional peer support.

Self-study may be right for you if you are:

		Self-driven and prefer to learn independently, and can grasp new ideas and concepts quickly
		Capable of great attention to detail to ensure you plan your studies successfully

 
If these are not your strong points then you should consider the benefits of classroom or distance learning.

If you choose to self-study you should take care to ensure that you cover the entire syllabus in your learning. You should also be aware that you will not have the opportunity to test your learning, or have the knowledge of a tutor or a networking group to check your understanding.

In order to take CIPS exams you will need to identify an exam centre where you can sit your examinations using our exam centre finder. Please note that there will be an additional charge from the exam centre for administering your exam, in addition to your exam fee.

When contacting any of our approved study centres to discuss classroom or distance learning here are some of the questions to ask: 

1. What’s the study format options such as part-time, evening, weekend or distance learning?
2. What’s their exam pass success rate? This will tell you how effective their support will be to help you to get through the different types of CIPS exams.
3. How long is the course; most take around 12 months per level?
4. What are the fees and what learning support materials do they provide such as study guides, learning resources, revision classes and techniques.
5. When can you enrol?
6. Do they hold any open days which you can attend to talk to the tutor or current students?
7. What level of CIPS approval status do they hold?
