Ethical and labour standards monitoring in global supply chains
1 July 2013
A number of supply chain audits by major brands (including Apple and Samsung) made headlines in 2012, highlighting the reputational risks of global supply, and the challenges of end-to-end visibility and ethical standards monitoring in global supply chains. One recent case involved Samsung’s audit of 105 Chinese suppliers (November 2012), identifying ‘several instances of inadequate practices at the facilities’, including overtime in excess of local laws, and worker fines for being late or absent from work. Apple is still (July 2013) involved in a number of similar allegations.
