A group of four persons being led by Daniel Bassey MCIPS, CIPS Global Congress Member, representing Africa members in the Institute, as well as Salisu Uba MCIPS, Aliyu Ahmed MCIPS and Kerry Nanakumo MCIPS, decided to go against the odds to put up events for the CIPS Nigeria Branch.
The first event held in Abuja on October 2017, with the theme: “Procurement Best Practice in Africa: A case study of the Nigerian Environment”. This event had Bola Afolabi, PhD, FCIPS as the Keynote speaker, presenting on the topic: “CIPS and Procurement Best Practice in Nigeria and across Africa”. The other Speakers were Pascal Egwim FCIPS who presented on “Strategic Procurement as a strategic tool for the fight against corruption” and Valentine Agwu MCIPS, whose presentation was on “The morality & challenges of cost optimization in a depressed economy”.
The second event held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State with the theme: “The Role of Ethical Procurement across Sectors in Revamping the Nigerian Economy”. The event had Engr Olubusola Ogunbanwo, Generel Manager, SCM, of Seplat Petroleum Development Company, as the keynote speaker and Abdul Musa FCIPS, presenting on the topic: “The constraints of implementing Ethical Procurement in the Public Sector in Nigeria
The most recent event held in April 2018 .This event had the theme: “The Strategic Role of Procurement and Supply Chain in the Nigerian Economy”. This event had in attendance, the representative of the Governor of Lagos State, in the person of Mr. Onafowote Idowu - General Manager, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, as well as the Managing Director of the Bank of Industry, Mr Olukayode Pitan, who was represented by the Bank's Group Head, Strategy & Corporate Transformation (Mr. Yinka Adeboye). Three papers were presented on this day; The Strategic Role of Finance in Supply Chain in the Nigerian Economy – MD, Bank of Industry; The Impact of Post-Contract Evaluation/Appraisal on the Nigerian Economy - Engr. Olubusola Ogunbanwo, General Manager - Supply Chain Management, Seplat Petroleum Development Company and Improving Value for Money in Nigeria’s Capital Expenditure Projects - Arinze Oduah FCIPS, Senior Procurement Manager, Wells & Projects, Royal Dutch Shell, Port-Harcourt, Nigeria. Highlight of the Event was the election of new officers to pilot the affairs of the Branch. The Event ended with a Dinner & Recognition to members for their services to the promotion of the Institute as well as the Procurement & Supply Chain Profession in Nigeria.
On the 10th of October 2017, CIPS Nigeria hosted an event for its members in the region who heard from speakers from our senior professional community.
Also of interest, was the panel of discussion session. It was an interface of top industry CPOs with members, where questions were asked and answers offered; Concerns were raised, but pledge of commitment was also a focus.

The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) Nigeria Branch recently organised their Annual conference
Attendance to the event included members of the Institute, intending members of the Procurement & Supply Chain professions drawn from various sectors, Invited speakers and guests from both Corporate and government institutions.
The Keynote Speaker, Mr Olukayode Pitan (Managing Director, Bank of Industry) was represented by the Bank's Group Head, Strategy & Corporate Transformation (Mr. Yinka Adeboye) and presentation was on the topic: The Strategic Role of Finance in Supply Chain in the Nigerian Economy.
The other two speakers who spoke at the event were:

The highlight of the event was the election of new officers, being led by Uche Gob-Agundu FCIPS as the Branch Chair, to pilot the affairs of the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS) Nigeria Branch from 2018 to 2020.
Also the Event ended with a Dinner & Recognition Event where guests included; Bola Afolabi, PhD, FCIPS (CIPS Global Past President), Babs Omotowa FCIPS (Immediate Past Managing Director, NLNG), Chief Pascal Egwim FCIPS (First CIPS Nigeria Branch Chair), Daniel Bassey MCIPS (CIPS Global Congress Member, representing Africa members in the Institute), Michael Fadipe MCIPS (Immediate Past Branch Chair), Uche Gob-Agundu FCIPS (Current CIPS Nigeria Branch Chair), Gbogboade Akindele FCIPS, Igeme Ezenwata FCIPS were recognised for their services to the promotion of the Institute as well as the Procurement & Supply Chain Profession in Nigeria.
