New Zealand Regional Chair: Tod Cooper, FCIPS
Tod is a Commercial and Procurement Consultant. He was the General Manager of MDA Corporation and has been involved in commercial and operational leadership and advisory roles for the past 15 years, with the two most recent roles having a significant strategic procurement transformation focus. Prior to his current role Tod has held senior positions across both public and private sector in both sales, procurement and business leadership and development, cementing himself as a key trusted advisor. It is fair to say Tod has seen the good, the bad, and the ugly from the perspectives of both a procurement practitioner and a supplier.
Tod’s career began in in the mid 90’s with a sales and marketing role within a private defence contractor, a role which would eventually lead to an 8-year diplomatic career including a diplomatic posting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. Passionate about what a modern procurement function can offer a business in terms of practical and strategic business advice and support. Tod considers himself a procurement “champion”. Tod took up the opportunity to help further shape and entrench the profession and support the next generation of talent by joining the Wellington CIPS committee in 2014. He took over the Wellington Chair role in 2015 and shifts to the National Chair role in 2017. Tod is very proud of what the Wellington Committee and the wider Wellington procurement community have done to build the procurement profile, and in his new role is looking forward to supporting the Auckland and Christchurch regions in their growth too.
Auckland Chair: Aiedy Di - Procurement leader at Ministry of Education of New Zealand
Chinese Born, New Zealander Aiedy Di started his Procurement journey after graduating from the University of Auckland in 2014.
He has worked across many diverse sectors ranging from the Local Council, State Owned Enterprises (SOE) and Government, his current role is a Procurement Leader at the Ministry of Education.
Aiedy joined the CIPS Auckland committee in 2018 and has been the newly appointed Chair in 2020, he is undertaking his MCIPS (Level 6) which he looks to complete by 2020.
Aiedy’s vision for the committee is to utilize Procurement as a “force of good” striving towards achieving broader outcomes focusing on Cultural, Social and Sustainable matters, all whilst developing the profile and exposure of the Procurement profession.
We provide to our Auckland CIPS members with events that are relevant, thought-provoking and practical, the events are aimed to create an environment where attendees are able to develop their insights, relationships and share knowledge.
When Aiedy isn’t busy handling Procurement issues he is an established pacesetter for the Adidas Runners Auckland community.”
Auckland Branch Treasurer - Alex McLoughlin, MCIPS - IAG
Originally from the UK, Alex has been in the profession for over 15 years and currently works at IAG NZ as Manager of Supply Chain & Business Systems, concentrating primarily in the Motor portfolio. Alex has been MCIPS since 2013 after qualifying back in the UK. He joined the committee in 2016 and took over as Chair in 2018.
Alex and the committee aims to help deliver the value proposition of being a member of CIPS. We will provide our members with a series of quality and topical events over the year. This will provide opportunities for attendees to professionally develop and the chance to build their networks, which may help identify the next opportunity for you or your business.

Auckland Branch Social Media Officer - Paul Cateriano
Paul is a Strategic Procurement Professional with over 14 years of experience in different roles in Procurement, Operations and Management Consultancy.
He has worked in a wide range of industries such as Mining, Manufacturing, Local Government, Infrastructure, Electrical Services, among others. This broad experience has given him the ability to see the big picture, connect the dots and collaborate with all levels of any organisation. He loves developing lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders and constantly going above and beyond to add value and deliver results.
Originally from Peru, he is currently working as a Strategic Procurement Specialist at Auckland Council where he leads several Strategic Initiatives, manages and executes Procurement Category Strategies, delivers Supplier Relationship and Contract Management outcomes, delivers on Council Social and Sustainable objectives and overall works towards delivering the best “value for money” outcomes for Auckland.
Paul and the Committee aim to raise the procurement profession profile in New Zealand and help the community to expand their network, share knowledge and develop their skills.
Member of the international business honor society Beta Gamma Sigma, holds an MBA from AUT University (with a specialization in Supply Chain and Operations Management), a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and is a certified Lean Six Sigma Green belt practitioner.
In his spare time, Paul loves exploring New Zealand and doing outdoor activities with his son Ian and his wife Mariale.

Auckland Committee Member: Elizabeth McGill, FCIPS - NZMA
Liz is passionate about all thing supply chain and volunteered to serve on the Auckland committee shortly after arriving in NZ from France. Liz holds a BSc joint Honours degree in International Business and French and is a full member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (FCIPS) and fluent in French.
Liz is currently a business lecturer in Supply Chain and Project Management focusing on Supply chain risk management strategies, sourcing and negotiation planning, she also carries out procurement and supply chain development projects. Her current role helps her to better understand the motivating forces and challenges faced by those wishing to extend their knowledge of supply chain and the education liaison role seeks to facilitate and strengthen the link between the class room and industry.
Prior to focusing on lecturing, Liz held the role of Manager of Procurement Excellence Technical Business Performance Group for Air New Zealand, supporting governance and the Strategic Vendor Management team. She has achieved global experience in roles such as Head of Procurement, Deputy Director Purchasing and Supply Chain Manager for large multinational companies which include American Express, Goodrich, Airbus, and Kingfisher Group.
Liz has also carried out freelance consultancy for supply chain consultants based in Europe. This background has given Liz responsibilities for managing Supply Chain and Procurement teams, as well as experience in diverse industries including retail, construction, aerospace, travel, telecommunications, and financial services with roles based in continental Europe, UK, and NZ. In her spare time Liz practices yoga, meditation and piano. Liz is also a keen traveller and enjoys the outdoors, trying to improve her golf and spending time with her family.

Patricia Perea joined the CIPS Committee in Auckland in 2018 and displays a real enthusiasn and passion for wanting to raise the Procurement profile. She currently works as a Procurement Advisor with Auckland Transport.
Originally from Peru, she also worked for Ausenco, Bechtel and Chigaco Bridge and Iron Company, in her home country before moving to New Zealand. Patricia is currently studying her CIPS qualifications and previously completed her Masters in Logistics with the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.
Wellington Chair: Michelle Bagnall, MCIPS - Todd Corporation
Michelle achieved MCIPS status in 2017 via the self-study route and joined the Wellington CIPS committee mid 2018. After a 14 year career in production management in the textile industry in South Africa, Michelle immigrated to the UK in 2001. It was here that her passion for Procurement was discovered after she got the opportunity to get involved in Supply Chain Management and global procurement within the electronics and automotive industry.
In 2011 when she was looking for a better work life balance Michelle and her family got the opportunity to immigrate from the UK to NZ in 2011 to take up the Procurement Mangers role at Steel & Tube and in 2013 joined Todd Corporation. She is currently leading the Group Procurement team at Todd Corporation focusing on Procurement policy, process, people and strategy for the Corporation.
During the 17 years that she has been in procurement she had led procurement change programmes, introduced MRP systems, managed negotiations and contracts across multiple countries, been involved in upskilling procurement teams, auditing of Asian based suppliers, managed both OPEX and CAPEX related spend whilst ensuring win-win outcomes for the companies she was employed by and their relevant supply base. She has enjoyed the challenges she has come across whilst working in procurement, some more than others. The greatest challenges she has faced was ensuring that the Asian based suppliers did not employ children in their workforce and that their employees weren’t being unfairly treated.
Wellington Vice Chair: Sabrina Baker MCIPS - ArcBlue & Link Consulting
Sabrina is an independent procurement contractor working with procurement consultancies such as Arcblue and Link Consulting. She has a career spanning 14+ years in the UK and New Zealand. Sabrina has been MCIPS since 2006 and has a Masters in Procurement.
Wellington Committee: Martyn Dodd, MCIPS - Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC)
Martyn has been a CIPS member since 2007 and held MCIPS status since 2011. He was a member of the CIPS South of England Regional committee in the UK before his move to NZ in 2015 where he has now joined the Wellington Committee. Martyn started his procurement career in retail, procuring the goods to sell in the store he managed before making a move into manufacturing.
Here he was tasked with the creation of a Procurement function which spanned three sites in the UK and was involved with the operation to set up a joint venture in Poland. Having spent seven years in the private sector he moved to the public sector at West Sussex County Council as a Procurement Officer where he developed the strategy and led the end-to-end procurements for three Consortiums consisting of over 20 public bodies, whilst also being responsible for tendering and contract managing a portfolio of WSCC contracts. After four years Martyn moved to Portsmouth City Council as a Procurement Category Manager & Business Partner, specifically to deliver savings on Commodities due to budget cuts. In under two years he managed to identify and deliver savings of over 30% far exceeding the 10% target set. After visiting New Zealand in 2013 he planned a move and was offered the opportunity by Inland Revenue in 2015 as a Senior Procurement Specialist within the ICT & Corporate teams. A 6 month stint in the AoG Banking team within the New Zealand Government Procurement & Property Group followed before moving to his current role as Senior Category Manger at ACC.
Wellington Committee: Glenn Crafts - Ministry of Defence
Glenn took a winding career path to his place in the Ministry of Defence acquiring capability for the New Zealand Defence Force. From geology to geographic information system consulting; then wireless telco project management to logistics policy... which naturally led to being a procurement professional.
Procurement has provided diversity and challenges for an easily bored mind, and effected the kind of enduring changes that provide the necessary job satisfaction. Glenn has been involved in procuring everything from undersea cables to supporting helicopters, from nationwide IT upgrades to the aggregated purchase of electric vehicles to energise the market. The profession has provided some unusual roles included the re-engineering of the New Zealand government commissioning capability model and the procurement advisor to the Novopay Inquiry (worth a google).
Glenn stated that the theory foundations and support networks provided by involvement in CIPS has been a differentiator and he is keen to see the relevance of CIPS grow in New Zealand.
Wellington Committee: Paul Howard, FCIPS - Department of Conservation (DOC)
Originally from the UK, Paul started his career in the UK Civil Service in the Department for Social Security and qualified as MCIPS in 2002. Paul has worked for several UK Government Departments including HM Customs and Excise, HM Treasury and Department for Education leading many significant procurement and shared services projects and programmes. Prior to arriving in New Zealand in 2015, Paul was the Procurement and Commercial Director for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, he led the function through a transformation process significantly lifting capacity and capability to help the Department to cope with the Olympic period and subsequent Legacy arrangements, the National Broadband Strategy and World War One Commemorations.
Paul currently leads NZ Defence Commercial Services, a team of over 80 covering all 3rd party spend in the Defence Force. Paul became a CIPS Fellow in June 2013 and is passionate about growing and developing the procurement profession.
Wellington Committee: Margaret Pearson FCIPS - MBIE
Margaret is the Chief Advisor Procurement for the New Zealand Government Procurement and Property Branch in the Ministry for Business, Innovation and Employment.
Prior to taking up her current role, Margaret was the head of procurement at the Ministry for Primary Industries. Margaret has procurement and management experience spanning over 20 years and has held FCIPS since 2016. She is particularly passionate about demonstrating the value of procurement as a profession and function that assists agencies achieve their goals, and drive and deliver improved outcomes.
Christchurch Chair: Jane O'Toole, MCIPS - Christchurch City Council
Jane moved to NZ in 2015 and worked for Christchurch City Council for 18 months to help them procure construction works to support the rebuild initiative, then continued on to become the Procurement Manager for Christchurch International Airport where she won awards for her procurement work around sustainability. Jane now works back at Christchurch City Council as a Procurement Manager. Jane achieved her MCIPS in 2015 and is passionate about driving the procurement industry forward in terms of ensuring the high profile recognition it deserves, and ensuring continued growth and improvement. One particular area of focus is in terms of succession planning for the people of the future and works hard to help develop others.
Christchurch Committee: Ian Rowland MCIPS- Christchurch CIty Council
Ian began his career in procurement at the Environment Agency, a large NGO with 12,000 employees tasked with protecting the land, sea and air in England and Wales. Categories Ian managed during his time there were Management and Environmental Consultancy, Specialist and Technical Temporary Staff and Facilities Management. It was during this period of employment that Ian gained his MCIPS. After 5 years at the Environment Agency and taking a 12 month sabbatical, Ian worked for bwin.party digital entertainment as Procurement Manager, a newly created function based at the parent companies’ headquarters in Gibraltar. With subsidiary companies across the globe, primarily focussed in procurement in the IT category, this role involved understanding the best company to use at the contracting party to make better use of global tax rules. The role also involved extensive global travel to negotiate building leases and outsourcing services such as payroll.
Ian moved to NZ at the beginning of 2015 working for Canterbury District Health Board as a Procurement Specialist, quickly being promoted to Senior Procurement Specialist, Medical Device Procurement Manager and ultimately Procurement Manager for the entire Procurement function for Canterbury District Health Board and West Coast District Health Board. This latter role included managing three distinct procurement teams, providing strategic procurement leadership and oversight for the complete fit-out of the Acute Services Build in Christchurch, Christchurch Outpatients and Grey Base Hospital in Greymouth; the BAU team and the Medical Devices Team managing the transition of medical device procurement back from healthAlliance to the DHB’s. This required a focus on collaborative procurement with other DHB’s across the country as well as working closely with New Zealand Health Partnerships and Pharmac.
Ian joined Christchurch City Council in 2018 as Senior Procurement Specialist in the Vertical and Horizontal Infrastructure team seeing this as an exciting challenge to transfer his skills into a new category and is keen to share his knowledge and experience to make the Procurement team at the Council a leading procurement function in the country, particularly during the exciting times of the Christchurch rebuild activity.
Christchurch Committee: Anna Laity - Christchurch International Airport
Anna is a Procurement specialist with Christchurch International Airport. She has wide experience in a variety of International and Domestic Procurement & Logistics Projects, Anna has unique skill set allowing her to adapt to a wide range of industries.
Her knowledge and expertise has contributed to a successful career which has progressed to cover the end to end processes of all major fields of Direct & Indirect Procurement.
Christchurch Committee: Benjamin Gill - Synlait Milk Limited.
Ben was born and raised in Christchurch, and "fell into" a Procurement career by accident while working for Schneider Electric NZ Ltd. Since then he hasn’t looked back, following up a variety of Procurement roles mainly in the manufacturing sector with a recent stint in construction as Supply Chain Manager at Arrow International, before moving on to his current role leading Procurement and Logistics at Kiwicare Corporation.
Ben is experienced and passionate in developing global supplier relationships and supply chains that unlock real value for local businesses. As a member of the CIPS Christchurch committee, he hopes to represent the unique interests of his private sector colleagues and will strive to deliver events that appeal to this group.

Kim started her life in procurement working for a large retail groups procurement unit, she had spent the last 25 years moving between retail procurement, commercial procurement, working in the private and public sector, many years involvement in supply chain, logistics, warehousing, freight, sourcing, category/contract management, packaging, branding, sustainability and procurement technology integration in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand and have been fortunate to work for some great companies such and Wal-Mart, Bidvest, Western Power and the Christchurch City Council to name a few, and is loving her new role at Synlait Milk company.
