In this episode of the Women Leaders in Procurement & Supply webinar series, we are featuring outstanding global female procurement and supply leaders who are gamechangers and making their mark in the world of procurement and supply. We are joined by 5 CIPS Fellows across 5 countries including Gill Thorpe FCIPS, UK,  Maryanne Karanja FCIPS, Kenya, Sara Abdellatif Omer FCIPS, UAE, Billie Gorman FCIPS, Australia and Jo Toon FCIPS, New Zealand, as they impart their knowledge and wisdom through an authentic conversation with host Sharon Morris, GM of CIPS ANZ.

    Sara is a Senior Regional Leader in Supply Chain and Procurement Practice, and a Board member of the Global Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply. Sara comes with more than 20 years of professional experience in Procurement, Supply Chain Management and Digital Procurement. She plays a pivotal role in delivering value to regional organizations by leading them through their procurement and supply digital transformation journeys. Sara has recently joined the Leading Supply Chain and Procurement Technology provider, Ivalua, at the capacity of the company’s Account Director for the Middle East region.

    Billie is the Global Procurement Manager of Corporate Services at Rio Tinto. Corporate Services is responsible for maximising the outcome of our third party performance across value, performance, risk and sustainability as it applies to benefits, outsourcing, maritime and other technical and professional services. Billie was previously part of the Procurement Leadership team at Accenture and a trusted advisor to ASX 100 companies, health service providers and Governments helping them set their procurement strategic priorities, optimising their commercial and operational procurement transformation programs and building a procurement digital roadmap. Billie has over 20 years of procurement leadership experience across multiple industries in Australia, UK and Europe working for Oracle, Sky, London Underground, Suncorp and BOQ. Billie is a Fellow of CIPS, a member of the CIPS ANZ Profession Steering Committee and passionate about the future of procurement. She is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

    Maryanne Karanja is a Supply Chain and Project turnaround expert with over 20 years’ experience in corporate senior leadership roles in Africa. Maryanne has a solid Supply Chain and Procurement background and sound knowledge in the development of Supply Chain Strategy, application of Category Management, Contract Management, Sustainable Procurement and Local Content Development. She seeks to harness technology, and in particular AI, Data Analytics and Robotics in the delivery of business transformation and company growth. She actively leverages stakeholder associations in order to deliver desired organisational results.

    Jo Toon has been working as a procurement professional in the New Zealand public sector since 2010, with a career that has encompassed IT, Corporate and Social Services procurement. She gained her MCIPS through the exam route in 2015, and was awarded her FCIPS in 2018. She is passionate about the development of procurement as a profession; she was involved in writing textbooks for the new CIPS syllabus and is asked to speak both nationally and internationally. She chairs the Social Sector Procurement Committee, a cross agency network of government agencies involved in delivering social services. Her career has also seen her volunteering on the CIPS Wellington committee, including chairing it for two years, and running the procurement for the 2020 World Science Fiction Convention. She currently manages the Social Services Procurement Team at Oranga Tamariki¬-Ministry for Children.

Gill has been at the forefront of driving change in sustainable procurement practices to protect both people and planet. She works Working with like-minded clients to help them on their sustainability journey and collaboratively with suppliers and factories to help improve human rights and more sustainable supply chains through best practice and innovation. Gill is proud to have led The Sourcing Team to become a certified B Corp member in 2020.
