Salary: London: £40,637 - £42,601, Cheltenham or Buckinghamshire: £38,647 - £40,055

Flexible working opportunities are available including flexi-time, part-time, full-time, job share and compressed hours. Minimum 3 days per week in the office, with flexibility to work from home 1-2 days per week. Requirement to travel to other locations as required.

At MI5, we protect our national security from threats such as terrorism, espionage and cyber-crime. Working with our partners MI6 and GCHQ, we obtain, collate, analyse and assess secret intelligence to keep the UK safe. Our procurement function plays a key role in that mission – ensuring we have the goods and services we need to support our day-to-day operations.

As a Commercial Practitioner, you’ll provide a highly professional customer service to internal and external partners. Working across a range of unique procurement projects, you’ll gather requirements, liaise with suppliers and keep customers informed with progress updates. With your experience working in a procurement and supply chain service, you’ll ensure Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) are met while providing sustainable cost savings and value-added interventions. And of course, you’ll apply best practice commercial principles to all you do.

We have Commercial Practitioner roles across three key areas. You could be working with our Customer Facing Team, managing relations, developing commercial solutions and agreeing the future pipeline and prioritisation of the workbook. In Commercial Operations, you’ll take responsibility for policy, audit, finance and people development. Or, you might support Commercial Delivery across technology, estates, people and professional services, and the supply chain security team.

Whichever area you’re supporting, you’ll bring a high level of customer focus and commercial acumen to the position. You’ll act as a role model, task managing a small team of your own and encouraging confidence through mentoring and knowledge sharing. Driven and enthusiastic, you’ll approach tasks with positivity and develop strong working relationships with customers, suppliers and those around you. 

You’ll have, or be willing to study towards, a professional commercial qualification such as CIPS (or equivalent). And, you’ll have experience in at least one of the following: contract management, sourcing, commercial policy and assurance, supply chain or low value procurement and invoicing. You’ll be working for MI5, but you could be based at one of our MI6 or GCHQ locations - we can discuss this with you as part of the application process.
