Based at WMFS Headquarters, Birmingham (hybrid working options available)

West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority serves a population of nearly 3 million people across seven Local Authorities.

We are a well-run organisation, rated outstanding by HMICFRS in its overall effectiveness and named the UK’s Number 1 Most Inclusive Employer for 2022/23 and 2023/24. We are committed to making the West Midlands safer, stronger and healthier.

There is an opportunity to join the Service within the Procurement team as a Category Manager – Professional Services, reporting to the Procurement Team Manager.

The role is designed to deliver continuous benefits through the provision of savings, efficiencies and improvements to goods and services. This role has a specific focus on Training, Soft Facilities Management and Human Resource related projects, although there is likely to be crossover with other departments. It has responsibility for procurement activities including monitoring market dynamics, key stakeholder engagement and contract negotiation.

You will be responsible for:

- Taking the lead on and being accountable for the award and management of specific contracts.

- Identifying and realising savings, efficiencies and improvements from procurement activities using evidence-based decision making and robust contract management.

- Providing specialist procurement advice to employees across the organisation, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and legislation.

- Collaborating internally and externally with regional and national partners to achieve joint working and economies of scale in the delivery of procurements.

- Monitoring market trends, external themes and supply chain risks which may impact on the Service’s performance or delivery.

We are looking for an experienced procurement professional with a track record of leading and managing procurement related projects and experience across every aspect of the procurement cycle.  An enthusiastic individual, with a can-do attitude and good communication skills. Whilst public sector procurement experience would be an advantage, it is not essential.

If you are not currently fully qualified in MCIPS, we provide opportunities to continue a funded qualification.

For more information or an informal discussion please contact Jacky Perkins, Procurement Team Manager on 0121 380 6176.

To apply, please provide an updated copy of your CV and complete the application statement outlining your skills and experiences in line with the Job Description.
