Job Description

Our Client a leading process engineering solutions company, who has been delivering high-purity process solutions to pharmaceutical, biotech, food and beverage, and chemical customers all over the world are looking for a Buyer to join the team on a permanent basis

Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the purpose of this position is to purchase goods, material, equipment and services to ensure that we meet business and project requirements, taking into account price, quality and delivery and ensure continuity of supply.

You may take responsibility for specific project/projects or hold a larger remit in terms of purchasing responsibility.

Job Responsibility:
  • Purchasing of equipment, components, raw materials, inventory items & consumables to meet project requirements in line with specified cost, quality and delivery targets.
  • Creating purchase orders from purchase requisitions and material take-offs issued by Project Teams and using Suppliers that are updated on our Approved Supplier List.
  • Request quotations, price comparisons, and negotiate with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing is achieved.
  • Ensuring continuous supply of required goods and materials and communicate any supply chain problems which may pose a risk or impact on business operations.
  • Proactively liaising between suppliers and Teams (Project Managers & Project Engineers) with day-to-day purchase requisitions and resolving purchase supply issues, ensuring an accurate and timely provision of supplies
  • Ensure all purchase requisitions are processed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide on-going support and back-up to the Purchasing Manager
  • Ongoing commercial management of suppliers ensuring contract compliance and delivery to SLAs.
  • Ensure purchasing data base system is kept up to date and well maintained.
  • Negotiate contracts, improved prices and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make business savings utilising negotiation and procurement best practice tools and methods.
  • Assess and evaluate suppliers and undertake performance reviews to ensure contract compliance and manage performance improvement activities.

Candidate General Requirements
  • Relevant business/commercial or Professional Diploma / Degree in a related discipline
  • Ideally 2-3 years of relevant experience in a purchasing role.
  • Experience within an engineering /Manufacturing Environment is a distinct advantage.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Highly skilled at building and maintaining effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers.
  • Strong IT skills (word, Excel) is essential.
  • Advanced skills with formulas, complex financial spreadsheets in MS Excel would be a plus.
  • Experience of material planning with an ERP experience would be advantageous.
  • Purchasing experience within an engineering environment is a distinct advantage.
  • Contract management and supplier experience an advantage.
