Job Overview
TE Connectivity's Purchasing Teams are responsible for obtaining materials, components, equipment and services, gather quotations, examine bids, and award contracts. They perform cost analysis and volume planning for commodities, evaluate vendor reliability and develop new supply sources where required. They coordinate purchasing activities with the manufacturing and engineering departments to maintain inventory at planned levels and monitor cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. They also look for and recommend cost saving proposals including make vs. buy analysis, alternative sourcing, and vendor evaluation criteria as well as develop specifications for new contract orders.
Your responsibilities
The intention for this role is to be driven to improve the current processes and supplier performances, while identifying opportunities for cost savings. The candidate must have a flexible approach and support requirements to ensure workload is managed accordingly, and will be keen to learn and support other areas of the business.
• The day-to-day operation of the Purchasing function.
• Purchasing a wide range of related materials, components, equipment, and services in line with operational procedures and requirements and at the most competitive price.
• Timely placement of purchase orders and delivery of parts in line with operational requirements.
• Secure material delivery progress by obtaining and providing regular updates from suppliers and providers to secure on-time delivery, allowing for internal manufacturing process lead times.
• Maintaining inventory levels within approved guidelines.
• Resolving and investigating supply chain errors and examining via root cause analysis.
• Assisting Quality Team on supplier Quality issues.
• Creating and updating daily shortage reports.
• Continually improving purchasing methods in a bid to reduce external spend by 4%.
• Assisting in developing and implementing policies and procedures for Materials Purchasing and ensuring these are understood and adhered to.
• Identifying new suppliers including discount structures, and supply agreements.
• Ensuring the highest level of service is provided and maintained for both internal and external customers.
• Providing clearance information to the responsible courier / freight forwarder for all imports, within regulations of Customs and Excise.
• To request assistance from other departments.
• To propose additional trainings and procedures updates.
• Additional work hours are expected to support workload.
• Perform any other duties within your capabilities as directed by the Company.
What your background should look like:
Qualifications & specialist training required:
• Knowledge of ERP essential.
• Prior experience in a Purchasing/Sourcing role preferred.
• Negotiation skills desirable.
• Establishment of supplier agreements desirable.
• Computer literacy skills, emails, Microsoft Office competency.
Skill / aptitude required:
• Flexibility to work overtime at short notice, in line with business demands.
• Working on own initiative or as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Attention to detail.
• Reliability.
