Brief Description

As a Commercial Manager, you will be integral to managing post contract commercial activities and supporting pre-contract efforts for medium-value and medium-risk projects. You will leverage your expertise to ensure cost efficiency and adherence to governance standards.

A strong grasp of governance and assurance controls for managing public money is essential, as is being a trusted expert in both Pre and Post Commercial activity.

This opportunity is for a fixed period of 12 months.

About the role (External)

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the programme and project teams in monitoring compliance with Network Rail corporate governance and rules.

• Manage cost reporting for allocated projects, including Cost Forecasting and Anticipated Final Cost.

• Monitor and report on all commercial aspects of projects, proposing mitigation actions for any issues.

• Influence decision-making from a commercial perspective and review contractor delivery.

• Manage the assessments and valuation of contractor applications and payment certifications.

• Provide advice on change management and produce documentation for approval.

• Produce payment applications/invoices and manage commercial risk and claims.

• Provide management information and analysis for informed decision-making.

• Ensure proper retention and archiving of commercial records and undertake final account settlements.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

• Proven negotiation skills and experience in managing contracts.

• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence contractor behaviour.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to risk management.

• Strong IT skills and experience (Excel essential)

DESIRABLE SKILLS

• Degree in relevant subject.

• Membership to a professional institute or chartered status.

• Significant experience in generalist commercial environment

• Awareness of industry issues within the railway and construction sectors.
