European CPRM Lead - Global Leading Food & Beverage Firm

World leading food & beverage company, with a globally recognized brand seeks a European Commodity Price & Risk Management (CPRM / CRM) Lead to join, lead and grow initially their European commodity hedging strategy and execution, but also with a view to moving into a Global role.

Location: This is a remote based role, working from home up to 4 days per week but it is essential that you are able to and happy to be in their London office 1 day per week (or more if you prefer).

Salary: £85k basic + 20% bonus + benefits

The Company & Role:
My client is one of the most recognizable global logos and firms on the planet, with numerous separate brands in their portfolio. Currently they do have a CPRM business in Europe that covers Sugar hedging but due to the commodity price volatility globally, the global board have made the growth of Commodity Price Risk Management (CPRM) of a paramount importance, starting in Europe. As such the successful European CPRM Lead will join a CPRM business that is not completely Greenfield, but with the autonomy and backing to completely reshape the strategy and execution of commodity buying in Europe.

Commodities covered include (but not limited to): Sugar, Vegetable Oils, Wheat, Barley, Packaging (i.e. Resins & Paper), Energy, Dairy, Fruits, Oil, Coffee Beans etc. You will have an open book to target the commodities one by one, in the order that you deem the most urgent and where you can hedge most effectively to ensure strong risk management. The emphasis for this role is managing risk, but obviously cost savings are always welcome!

As well as creating a comprehensive plan for managing risk for over £1.5Billion spend, you will work with the Sourcing Managers leading each commodity to implement and deliver it. You'll also work with Sourcing Managers to lead discussions on coverage strategies and train those Buyers in how to execute derivative transactions. As such, it is essential that the successful European CPRM Lead comes either directly from another CPRM role or from a commodity trading risk management role with exposure to CPRM. A pure Procurement Commodity Buyer/Category Manager etc won't be suitable as they'll lack the commodity trading know-how.

This is therefore a fantastic opportunity for a knowledgeable Soft Commodity Trading Risk Manager or even better, an experienced CPRM Manager to join one of the largest Food & Beverage firms and shape their European hedging and execution strategy. You'll grow your European team around you, work, with senior executives within the business and then move into a more global role.

Key skills & experience needed

  • At least 5 years+ experience gained working in soft commodity trading risk management with some exposure to CPRM, OR ideally experience working for another global food & beverage firm in a senior CPRM role
  • This is not a Director level role yet, but is looking for someone at circa £70-85k basic + 20% bonus + benefits, so more Manager to Senior Manager grade
  • You could have a breadth of experience across multiple commodities or specialized in just one or two (e.g. Sugar, Cocoa etc), but it's important that you can grow into managing CPRM across all commodities
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and ability to interact with Commodity Buyers right up Board Level
  • You could come from a strong permanent background, or be a contractor or work in consulting working on-site at other leading food & beverage firms
  • It is essential that you can work at least 1 day per week in London, so it is heavily preferred that you have a British or Irish passport or hold a visa (ILR, Spousal Visa, EU Settled Status etc) that means you don't need any visa sponsoring
  • Degree educated
