This global research and manufacturing firm is looking for a pharmaceutical procurement expert to join its Global Procurement Leadership team based out of Milan. This position will see you leading a highly talented team of Category Managers and Sourcing Managers based across North America, Europe and Asia and managing an extremely complex spend portfolio of direct materials for pharmaceutical manufacturing totaling €150m in annual spend. The aim of this position is to bring a higher level of structure to the global procurement organization and a more strategic approach to procurement on a global level. This will require someone with a very high level of knowledge of procurement, strategic sourcing and category management as well as deep industry experience of the Pharmaceuticals or Life Sciences sectors.

As the Global Procurement Director your responsibilities will include:

  • Driving the implementation of Category Management across the business and providing guidance on development of Category Strategies
  • Establishing an effective Supplier Relationship Management system that fosters innovation and minimizes supply risk to the organization
  • Establishment of global cross-functional collaboration internally to provide lowest total cost solutions and leverage global scale on negotiations
  • Internally pushing for further use of eSourcing tools across procurement to create additional value to the business through forward and reverse eAuctions
  • Delivering Year-On-Year savings in your designated spend area of 5% or more
  • Providing leadership, training and development planning to your team to ensure an effective growth trajectory in the business

Skills and qualifications needed for the Global Procurement Director position:

  • A University degree in Chemistry is preferred; alternatively in other sciences such as Biology, Biotechnology, Pharmacology, or similarly related field
  • Additional procurement and post-graduate qualifications such as CIPS, CPM, CPSM, or MBA
  • Expert knowledge of procurement in the Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences sector, including GMP, and ability to navigate to procedures, policies, and processes of the industry
  • In-depth knowledge of Category Management and the development of Category Strategies
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills to work with highly technical scientists, chemists, and production and manufacturing teams
  • Experience in the use of MRP and ERP systems such as SAP and Oracle

This will be a very challenging but equally rewarding opportunity for someone looking to continue building their career in the pharmaceutical space and be part of a growing global business. Your technical and commercial skills will be put to the test but you will have the opportunity to lead and develop and exceptionally talented global procurement team
