About Swindon Borough Council

Here in Swindon we understand what matters to our 220 thousand residents: an affordable home, good education, job opportunities and quality of life in a great location, as one of the fastest growing towns in the United Kingdom.

That is why we are working with partners to deliver our ambitious vision for Swindon so that the borough continues to thrive and benefits from well-managed growth, investment and regeneration.

The Housing Service

This is an opportunity to join one of the leading local authority housing organisations in the Region. Leading with an ambitious £50 million development programme over the next 3 years, leading on innovation with new approaches to solving homelessness and promoting regeneration. Additionally, £75 million is to be invested in our housing stock over the next 5 years; innovative and dynamic approaches will be required to ensure compliance and effective investment. We recognise that to rise to this challenge we need candidates with the potential to develop these programmes and in return we will invest in your personal development.

About the team

This role sits in the Building Contract & Procurement Team, within Housing Property Maintenance. Ostensibly tasked with procuring the relevant goods, works and services to support the maintenance of our growing housing stock (currently 10 thousand domestic accommodations, plus 300 corporate and operational buildings), the team deliver the planning, sourcing and delivery process elements of these maintenance requirements.

About the role

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a busy team, delivering a portfolio of contracts which align to the Housing and wider business strategies. You will have the opportunity to assess business requirements, undertake market analyses, compile complete tender documentation, oversee the tender and assess tender responses. The categories in question are wide ranging, from electrical upgrades and gas central heating to Fire Alarm systems and uPVC installations.

Compliance is key (legal, regulatory, Council, H&S and CDM), but so is flexibility to meet the business requirements, a wide market engagement and benefit for the community. All this whilst managing planned and reactive housing maintenance requirements.

This is an ideal opportunity for you to make your mark in a challenging, rewarding and forward-looking environment where we actively encourage you to develop and achieve your professional goals.

Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
In return for your skills, we offer:

•    Flexible working
•    Minimum of 25 days holiday
•    A career average revalued earnings (CARE) pension scheme
•    Leisure Discounts/ Legal Services discounts
•    Eating Out, Shopping and Entertainment discounts

The role is based in Swindon. However, we are currently working from home where possible. This situation is being reviewed and updated on a regular basis.

If you feel your experience and/or ambition matches this exciting role, then we would like to hear from you.
