Defence Procurement and Export Director

£70 - 80k

Bramwith Consulting have been exclusively engaged by this governmental trade body to hire a new Defence Procurement and Export Director to work within their dynamic trade and investment team based in London.

The successful individual will be act as an expert point of contact to industry stakeholders from Teir 1 organisations as well as SME's by providing insight into the UK defence market and procurement processes. This position takes a leading role in promoting foreign trade and investment within the defence industry, by offering specialist knowledge of defence procurement, supply chains, commercial terms, and regulations.

The role will report directly to the Senior Commissioner and will assist them in identifying routes to market in the UK by identifying potential partners and providing in-depth market insight.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of the responsibilities of this Director level position:

  • Act as an expert for all things UK defence but advising industry stakeholders on procurement and tender processes, UK and EU regulations, potential routes to market and export/import processes.
  • Take a leading role in industry engagement, representing the interests of companies and the government through networking, building relationships, and briefing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide in-depth market research and knowledge, utilizing existing relationships and networks to navigate the UK defence market, and provide tailored advice on internal supply chains.
  • Assist in developing long-term business strategy, identifying future opportunities, and keeping abreast with the latest developments within the UK and internal defence market.
  • Work with a large range of internal and external stakeholders including senior level civil servants, industry experts and leaders, internal representatives, and business development professionals.

The core skills, experience and qualifications required for this role are:

  • Extensive experience of working within the UK defence/aerospace industry, within either the public or private sector or both.
  • Strong commercial background with a strong understanding of UK defence procurement, supply chain, contracts, and regulations for exporting and importing defence products.
  • Prior experience of working within a business development or industry facing role is highly desirable, with the ability to influence stakeholders and build relationships all in the context of a highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to brief stakeholders.
  • Strong academic background, with relevant degree level education. CIPS or similar professional accreditation is desirable.
  • Full and unrestricted right to work in the UK, including being eligible for the appropriate level of security clearance.

This role is a unique and challenging position of vital importance, with large amounts of autonomy to influence decision markers at the highest level. Working as part of a niche team based in London, but with stakeholders spread around the globe.
