Diamond Light Source is the UK’s national synchrotron; a huge scientific facility designed to produce very intense beams of X-rays, infrared and ultraviolet light. Our scientists use the light to study a vast range of subject matter, from new medicines and treatments for disease to innovative engineering and cutting-edge technology.
Diamond is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world, and its pioneering capabilities and talented staff are helping to keep the UK at the forefront of scientific research.
About the Role
We now have a new opportunity for a Senior Contract Manager to join our small Procurement team, reporting to the Head of Procurement.
The Senior Contract Manager will work closely with our Technical and Scientific teams to ensure that the most appropriate Procurement solutions are undertaken which then translate into successful projects for Diamond.
Further responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring the timely delivery of contracts to Diamond.
- Managing high value / complex procurements from tender through to contract completion.
- Managing supplier relationships to ensure performance is in line with expectations, to ensure the supply chain works to meet Diamond’s objectives, and resolving any disputes.
- Preparation and issuing of invitations to tender (EU and UK), evaluating bids, analysing, negotiating, placing contracts and de-briefing suppliers.
Diamond is planning a major upgrade of the facility, known as Diamond-II, and this role will also play a significant part in contributing to the upgrade.
This role may involve some international travel to visit suppliers in Europe and further afield while monitoring supplier performance.
About You
You should be working towards membership of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (or similar professional qualification) or demonstrate extensive equivalent experience.
You will have an established track record of managing high value / complex procurements from tender through to contract completion in a technically challenging environment.
You will demonstrate knowledge of different procurement routes, with experience of selecting the most advantageous, along with experience of contractual dispute resolution.
We welcome applications from candidates who have either a Commercial or Public Sector background, but knowledge of the UK Public Procurement regulations will be an advantage.
You will display good interpersonal, communication, negotiation and presentational skills in order to manage supplier relationships and provide professional procurement advice to Diamond staff.
Benefits
Diamond offers an exceptional benefits package to support staff in achieving a positive work/life balance.
