Space impacts on everyone. Play your part in the nation’s future.

If you are looking for an exceptional commercial challenge in a world-renowned organisation, then the UK Space Agency (UKSA) is where your future lies. As the government organisation responsible for all UK space ambitions, we work in an exciting and productive field that stimulates innovation and industrial investment on an exponential scale. With a vision of growing and maintaining our strategic capabilities in space, our focus extends from technologies and science through to services and applications. The work we conduct is fast-paced and highly dynamic, particularly as we must have the fluidity to match changing Government policies, priorities and regulations. Join us, and you will be immersed in the most spectacular projects.

As a member of our Operations and Resources Directorate, you will be at the heart of our commercial and procurement capabilities. Working flexibly to meet the needs of rapid growth in the sector, you will therefore shape the best ways to engage with the marketplace, putting innovative procurement strategies in place to meet the needs of our customers. We benefit from target funding programmes for initiatives such as commercial spaceflight, and we have formulated extensive relationships with international partners, so you will make the most of this exceptional basis to support programme and project teams in the entire grant or commercial lifecycle.

This is a highly varied role in which you will review supplier and grant recipient proposals, identify risks and amend the deliverables, and negotiate excellent outcomes. As a trusted sector expert, you will prepare briefs and guidance for a wide number of audiences (ranging from potential suppliers to senior government officials and internal UKSA teams) and you will manage suppliers to ensure we have access to the most innovative start-ups, disruptive tech companies and international firms. Across all that you do, you will see to it that we are achieving value for money, providing clarity for audit purposes.

To make the most of this exceptional opportunity, you will have significant procurement experience in a complex delivery environment, underpinned by solid commercial acumen and an awareness of the public sector grant processes. Focussed on delivering the best possible outcomes, your negotiation skills will be underpinned by a proven track record of finalising contract terms – so you will need to be an exceptional communicator. With a background in utilising advanced purchasing techniques, your capacity to develop commercial and procurement strategies and create evidence-based business cases will be complemented by a definitive knowledge of EU procurement directives and public contracts regulations (including PCR 2015).

If you can bring a fresh approach to procurement, then you will be a natural asset to our friendly and dynamic team. In turn, we can offer a generous benefits package, ongoing development opportunities and the chance to challenge yourself in a truly progressive workplace. So join us, and do something career-defining with your expertise.

As part of the application process, you will need to provide a summary of your technical expertise detailing your experience of developing commercial strategies and business cases for complex programmes. This should also include an appraisal of alternative commercial options and the risks associated with delivering novel commercial outcomes.

Closing date: Sunday 25th April 2021.
