Food Ingredients and Packaging Buyer
Central Scotland
Aulds, one of the UKs leading Bakery and Frozen Dessert manufacturers, with production facilities at Inchinnan and Greenock have an exciting opportunity for an experienced buyer.
Manufacturing bakery products for over 120 years and desserts for over 50, under both own label and branded, the company has an enviable portfolio of blue-chip customers within the UK and overseas, and a reputation for innovative and high-quality products. The position provides the opportunity to carry out and further develop the buying function within the Aulds Group of Companies.
The Role
You will be specifically responsible for looking after the sourcing and purchasing of raw materials/ingredients and packaging and tasked with developing and executing a sourcing strategy to maintain a sustainable supply base and create a focus on quality, cost and continuity.
Reporting to the site leadership team you will ensure that you understand and deliver the group strategic and operational purchasing needs and that the needs of each site are effectively managed on both a strategic and day to day basis.
Your accountabilities will include:
Analysing spend in the different areas of the business to identify sourcing and negotiation opportunities
Market and supplier analysis to identify resourcing opportunities.
Short- and long-term stockholding to maximise the stock vs cost equation.
Ongoing supplier performance management and the maintenance of supplier scorecards
There is a healthy supplier base in place however this requires to be challenged to ensure that it is fit for purpose and able to develop in line with the company’s plans.
To do so you will require to work closely with our product development, Technical and Production teams to source new ingredients and to optimise commercial scenarios.
You will require to work closely to budgets, setting and achieving cost minimisation targets.
With the company’s emphasis on sustainability, you will require a good understanding of sustainability, recycling and carbon footprint minimisation.
The candidate
A Buyer from the food or similar industry, ideally with experience of buying ingredients and packaging.
Strong negotiator, planner and organiser
Creative and motivated individual
Good excel and general systems skills.
Excellent communication skills
A can-do attitude and hands on approach coupled with a desire to succeed.
Professional in manner and able to be a respected ambassador for the business.
The ability to make difficult decisions and to take a calm and measured approach in an often-pressured environment which often involves working to tight deadlines to achieve results.
A motivated self-starter able to identify and implement improvement ideas to the stage of delivery of commercial benefit.
