An evolving commercial function.
Shaped by you.
The challenge
Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. As a Commercial Contracts Manager, you’ll join a fast-growing commercial function whose responsibilities are expanding. A senior team member, you’ll be the key to high standards and transparent processes.
The role
In April 2021, ONR brought Procurement services in-house. As we build our commercial function, you’ll help us to develop transparent, professional commercial arrangements, providing robust oversight. This is a wide-ranging role, where you’ll manage tendering and contacting processes for a variety of goods and services working with the business, where the key is to achieve value for money and contract performance, while observing Government and ONR policies.
With a small team to manage, this is a chance to enhance your leadership skills, developing individuals. You’ll also liaise across the wider Finance department, which has a supportive, team-orientated culture. In this collaborative environment, you’ll help us to strengthen our commercial management capability, supporting a fast-paced organisation that does a critical job. Enjoy variety and autonomy in a newly created team.
The person
CIPS-qualified (or equivalent), you’ll bring proven experience of contract management and procurement, plus great communication skills. Whatever your background, you’ll be familiar with Public Contract Regulations (2015), HM Treasury Managing Public Money and other Government policies. You’ll also have a good grasp of tendering processes, plus team management skills and a gift for building relationships. It’s important that you can work closely with partners and colleagues, influencing and guiding them to achieve the best results.
The rewards
We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £31,798 – £37,290 plus a London weighting allowance if applicable. Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you’ll receive a generous holiday entitlement.
About us
ONR is a Public Corporation with a Mission to provide efficient and effective regulation of the nuclear industry, holding it to account on behalf of the public. Our staff are drawn from a wide range of professional backgrounds with specialist inspectors to deliver our core business including civil engineering, radiological protection, human factors, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering and nuclear physics. And together they’re involved in everything from assessing safety cases, inspecting nuclear sites, communicating our decisions, training new recruits and representing the UK and ONR within the wider international nuclear community.
