Job Details

Play a key role in achieving our carbon reduction targets and delivering quantifiable financial benefits. In this influential role, you will lead a team of Category Managers as well as taking ownership of our largest category, Estates. Coaching and mentoring this established team you will be motivated by evolving our approach and developing the team to meet future challenges. We will provide you the support, experience, and autonomy for your continued career development.

About us:

The University of Bath ranks 6th in Guardian University Guide 2021. Our campus is surrounded by beautiful countryside, and the City of Bath with its historic charm and social activity only a short distance away creates an excellent environment in which to work. We are an equal opportunities employer and have an excellent international reputation with staff from over 60 different nations.

About the role:

Reporting to the Head of Procurement, you will shape your role to achieve the goal of ensuring all University expenditure is analysed, planned, and procured to maximise value for money. You will be taking ownership of the Estates Category at a key point in our history as we move from large scale capital projects to focusing on achieving our carbon reduction targets through a major new programme of maintenance.

Directly helping the development and implementation of our Procurement Strategy, Policy, and Procedures you will also seek to discover new ways of managing risk across all our categories. In this highly collaborative role, you will work across the organisation and within your team to build effective relationships to develop good procurement practices across category management and contract management.

About you:

As an experienced senior procurement professional (CIPS Qualified), you will enjoy meeting the needs of internal customers and delivering quantifiable benefits back to the organisation. You'll also:

  • Be an adept leader or be able to demonstrate your potential to motivate individuals and create a cohesive approach across your team.
  • Have a talent for using your excellent interpersonal skills to build strong professional relationships, engaging and influencing internal and external stakeholders at all levels to deliver positive, customer-focussed outcomes.
  • Have detailed knowledge of effective procurements processes and e-Procurement tools, with experience of leading on tendering, letting, and measuring contracts.
  • Potentially have experience of procuring from the construction and FM markets, using NEC and JCT forms of contract, but this isn't essential as development will be provided.

The benefits:

We are a family friendly workplace and are open to exploring flexible working opportunities that benefit you and the University, including supporting you to combine working from home and from our campus.

We recognise the talents of our diverse workforce through an excellent reward package including a generous employer pension scheme and annual leave entitlement and are encouraging of your personal and professional development, along with (but not limited to):

  • A flexible working environment
  • Ofsted outstanding rated onsite nursery
  • Salary exchange scheme (cycle to work)
  • Onsite private and NHS dentist, onsite medical centre
  • Employee discount scheme

Our commitment to you:

We positively encourage applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity. We are particularly welcoming of applications from Black, Asian and other Ethnic candidates who are currently under-represented.

We have made a positive commitment towards gender equality and intersectionality receiving a Bronze Athena SWAN award, and we are actively working towards a Silver award. We are very proud to have recently received Ambassadors for Autism certification and are an accredited Disability Confident Leader; committed to building disability confidence and supporting disabled staff. Please let us know of any reasonable adjustments you may require. Our assessment approach ensures you will have the opportunity to promote your individuality, and we will make all offers based on your competencies and experience relative to the role.

For further information:

Please contact Tony Brett, Head of Procurement (tb493@bath.ac.uk) for any informal enquiries, however, please submit your application via the University website.

Closing date: 25 July 2021.

Interviews will take place w/c 9 August 2021.
