This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role shaping an expansive and challenging programme of commercial transformation at the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).

Being part of a small but growing and busy commercial team, you will have the opportunity to work across a number of key areas and have an influence on the development of the CMA’s Commercial and Contracts Management directorate. Your responsibilities will include the placement and management of contracts across a variety of spend categories, such as People Services, Technology, Corporate, Buildings and Market Research. This will involve the development of sourcing and procurement strategies in line with Government Commercial Function professional standards and the management of key suppliers. You will also ensure contracts deliver value for money and be responsible for the management and pricing of contract changes and variations.

Strong communication skills and the gravitas to manage various suppliers and provide expert commercial advice to staff at all levels on all aspects of commercial business is a key requirement, as is considerable procurement and contract/supplier management experience. You will also need to be professionally qualified (MCIPS) or have a suitable equivalent qualification. Knowledge and experience of commercial contracting is essential, as is experience of delivering commercial strategies that meet business needs, evidence value for money and mitigate operational risk. Experience of successfully delivering transformation in a commercial environment is equally important.

If you are excited about the opportunity to shape commercial business at the CMA and deliver marketplace insight and expertise, we would be delighted to hear from you.

In return the CMA is a hugely diverse, rewarding and stimulating place to work – an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so. We offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee assistance programme and favourable consideration of flexible working.

During the Covid-19 pandemic period, our staff at the CMA have been required to work from home to continue delivering our objectives. From October 2021 onwards, the CMA, like many other organisations, will move to a hybrid working model with a mix of office and home working. We believe this supports us to deliver our best work while allowing the flexibility to maintain balanced and healthy lives. Our staff work at least 50% of their time from their office location.

The CMA are an accredited Disability Confident Employer, and we are an equal opportunities employer, welcoming suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds.

We recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition, as outlined in the Civil Service Commission's recruitment principles.
