Company Procurement & Supply Manager
Specialist Packaging Manufacturer
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career with a very successful and progressive company.
Our client, a c£50m turnover, autonomous UK business within a diverse international group, specialises in making high quality rigid packaging for well-known fmcg customers in several key markets. The Company is known and respected for its innovative solutions, professional approach and excellent customer service.
As part of a reorganisation, our client has decided to strengthen and re-focus its purchasing and supply activities by creating this new role. Reporting to the MD and a member of the Executive Management Team, you will take overall responsibility for several key activities including:
- the purchasing and expediting of key raw materials which together account for c.30% of the Company’s sales turnover. One type of raw material is exclusively sourced from the Far East, is much in demand and needs close attention to ensure continuity of supply. Consignments of this raw material must also be appropriately financed, and shipping arranged/managed etc.
- the purchase of a wide range of other consumables and components to support the Company’s manufacturing and engineering activities.
- the negotiation and maintenance of a variety of service contracts (such as utilities), and
- contributing to a variety of Company-wide investment projects.
You will be personally responsible for the strategic direction, quality and cost-effectiveness of the function. This will almost certainly involve further developing the Company’s processes for identifying new suppliers, drafting tenders and contracts, assessing and evaluating suppliers, and your own department’s performance etc.
Overseeing the work of one buyer, you will largely determine your own priorities and programme of work within a mutually agreed framework of objectives and KPIs. The Company offers scope for further career development in due course.
You must be an experienced Procurement and Supply Chain professional from the manufacturing/engineering sector. We would be particularly interested in hearing from candidates who are currently the number 1 or 2 in a similarly sized or larger business. You must be intellectually able; strongly numerate, and able to express yourself well - both verbally and in writing.
You will almost certainly have been professionally trained (preferably to full CIPS standard) and must be well-versed in implementing/using modern procurement systems. You will ideally have had wide-ranging international procurement experience, be used to international travel and have an excellent knowledge/understanding of international terms of trade etc. Most importantly, you will have the vision, flexibility and drive to make a real difference to the business.
Our client is offering an attractive basic salary, car and all usual benefits.
Please send your CV, a brief summary of how you meet our specification and a summary of current remuneration, quoting Ref 4027B, to: Ross Monro, Managing Director, Rutherford Consulting Ltd, 4 Rutherford Drive, Knutsford, Cheshire, WA16 8GX.
