If you offer good contract and supplier management experience, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a growing and busy commercial team and shape commercial business and support the delivery of an expansive programme of commercial transformation.

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is a world leading competition agency, ensuring markets work well in the interests of consumers, businesses, and the economy. The commercial team plays a pivotal role in building the necessary capability to deliver CMA's hugely important work, dealing with many different local, national and global organisations and ensuring value for money.

As Commercial Manager, you will work with the Senior Commercial Manager, delivering procurement and contract management functions across the CMA. This will involve the placement and management of contracts across a variety of spend categories, including People Services, Technology, Corporate, Buildings and Market Research. You will also contribute to the development of sourcing and procurement strategies and the management of key suppliers, as well as support the management of key operational relationships, securing continuous improvement and cost reduction whilst minimising operational risk.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensuring contracts deliver value for money
  • Ensuring supplier performance
  • Managing contract changes and variations
  • Providing expert commercial advice to staff at all levels on all aspects of commercial business
  • Supporting the development of procurement and category managements strategies

You will be professionally qualified (MCIPS) or equivalent, or actively working to achieve such a qualification, with experience and understanding of public procurement. Experience in delivering commercial strategies and good communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills are equally important.

In return the CMA is a hugely diverse, rewarding and stimulating place to work – an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so. We offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee assistance programme and favourable consideration of flexible working.

During the Covid-19 pandemic period, our staff at the CMA have been required to work from home to continue delivering our objectives. From October 2021 onwards, the CMA, like many other organisations, will move to a hybrid working model with a mix of office and home working. We believe this supports us to deliver our best work while allowing the flexibility to maintain balanced and healthy lives. Our staff work at least 50% of their time from their office location.

The CMA are an accredited Disability Confident Employer, and we are an equal opportunities employer, welcoming suitably qualified applicants from all backgrounds.

We recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition, as outlined in the Civil Service Commission's recruitment principles.
