Take a strategic, system-wide approach to the supply of the UK’s medical technology

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) manages a supply chain like no other. The UK spends approximately £8-10billion each year on medical technology, which includes most of the equipment and consumables used by the NHS and care sectors. Ensuring a resilient supply chain of safe, high-quality products, the DHSC’s Medical Technology Directorate harnesses innovation and embeds sustainability. We also promote UK interests in global markets, adapting our regulatory, operational, commercial and clinical practices to keep pace with technological advances and market conditions.

The role

This is an opportunity to play a strategic leadership role in building the UK’s resilience to future pandemics and major incidents. Heading up a diverse team, you’ll ensure oversight of national strategic reserves of critical care equipment and consumables, and management of key contracts, supplier relationships, procurements and associated finance. This role will develop and implement a robust stockpiling strategy that maximises system resilience, minimises expiry and obsolescence costs, and takes account of emerging risks. The role also encompasses a focus on medical gases policy including oxygen supply resilience, building systems to improve our understanding of the MedTech sector, and overseeing assigned projects. The role works in close partnership with NHS Supply Chain, NHS England & Improvement, the Devolved Administrations, and key local and international suppliers.

About you

Success depends on the management of a complex technical, regulatory and stakeholder landscape including equipment and technology suppliers, other departments and bodies, and NHS organisations.  You’ll therefore need experience of delivering complex operational functions in a fast-paced, complex, multi-stakeholder environment. This includes being able to translate ministerial direction into effective operational activity and implementation. Ready to work at scale, you’ll be used to managing and delivering major projects on time and on budget. Creative problem-solving and exceptional communication skills are essential.  Experience in medical supply chain and logistics or high-value contract and commercial management would be an advantage.

Benefits

In return for your commitment and expertise, we offer generous benefits including flexible working options, a supportive and inclusive culture and a Civil Service pension. Tailored learning and development will also be offered to help you develop and grow further.

Apply

We welcome applications from candidates regardless of their background and are committed to supporting team members in their personal development. This is a fantastic opportunity for a high-performing individual to join our supportive and inclusive team.

Apply before 11:55 pm on Wednesday 15th December 2021.
