Do more than lead a team.

Make innovative research possible.

Join the team behind the Science Inside.

Here at Dstl, we keep the UK safe and secure with the latest science and technology. We’re a world-leader in our field with one aim – protecting lives. That means our work is incredibly varied, with real value and purpose. Behind that work is a team of thousands, with every member playing a critical role. As a Commercial Manager, you’ll join a diverse organisation where everyone’s contribution counts.

Leading a team of Commercial Officers, you’ll help us deliver advanced science and technology with your proven procurement skills. As well as supervising your professionals, you’ll manage your own procurement projects, thinking innovatively to find the best solutions. It’s a chance to handle everything from sourcing and contract management to supplier relations, acting as a Supervising Practitioner to support key divisions. Often focusing on complex or higher value contracts, you’ll oversee commercial sales activity.

Day to day, you’ll be advising on procurement strategies, supporting value for money tendering and managing supplier performance throughout the life of contracts. You’ll also see that your team performs at its best, by nurturing people’s development. It all adds up to a busy, challenging role, where you’ll manage team workflow and help to provide commercial services across Dstl. That’s why we’re looking for an experienced manager with the drive to deliver and make a difference.

Already working in a Commercial environment, you’ve got the expertise and confidence to take decisions, respond to challenges and inspire teams. Plus, you have an eye for detail and a sense of the bigger picture: what we do and how you help us achieve our aims.

With high quality training, work-life balance and the chance to advance, we offer flexibility and opportunities as well as varied, meaningful work. Benefits are wide-ranging and include the option to buy and sell holiday, staff discounts, assistance with rental deposits and on-site facilities such as a gym.

We’re proud to foster an inclusive culture that values different backgrounds and perspectives. We also recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition.

As part of the Civil Service, Dstl embraces diversity and promotes equal opportunities. As such, we run a Disability Confident Scheme (DCS) for candidates with disabilities who meet the minimum selection criteria.

We offer a guaranteed interview for all disabled applicants who provide evidence in their application of meeting the minimum essential requirements of the post, set out in the job description. You will be asked to indicate if you are applying under this scheme when you submit your application.
