An exciting opportunity has arisen for this challenging key role that will give you the opportunity to be the Authority’s lead adviser on all Procurement matters. Supporting the Head of Strategic Support, you will provide strong visible proactive leadership and a collaborative approach to the Council’s procurement activity. Leading the management and operation of the Procurement function you will ensure all regulatory, compliance and professional standards are in place ensuring the Council operates in line with local and national policy.
This role provides an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of best possible outcomes for our communities and play an active role in the leadership, management and development of the Procurement team in order to achieve excellent value for money across the Council’s spend, drive social value and sustainability.
What you’ll need to succeed
As well as all the responsibilities you would expect of a Procurement leadership role you will be passionate about delivering excellent customer service, sustainability and championing social value whilst achieving a successful balance between both innovation and meeting corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
We’re looking for an individual who is CIPS qualified or educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline (business, business administration, or finance) and has strong experience within a purchasing role. You’ll demonstrate knowledge of contract law and will have a successful track record of negotiating with external stakeholders. You’ll be conversant with procurement methodologies and techniques and proficient in completing research and market analysis.
You will require a comprehensive knowledge of up to date procurement law and practice and possess appropriate specialist knowledge of social value and procurement processes.
You will be technically competent with experience in delivering complex projects working with a range of stakeholders both internal and external to the Council. You will work with suppliers and develop strategies to ensure the business is receiving the most efficient service terms while maintaining value and cost efficiency benefits.
