Joining the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) means making a real difference to the world. Now uniting development and diplomacy in one department, the FCDO pursues the UK’s national interests overseas. We assist British citizens, promote trade, safeguard the UK’s security and defend the nation’s values. Our Commercial Directorate is key to our mission to develop innovative commercial solutions and provide the UK taxpayer with the best value for money.
We currently have two roles in the Corporate and People Category Team and two in the Information and Communication Technology Category Team. Focusing on indirect spend or ICT contracts, you will employ a clear category management approach to managing spend and securing contracts, in line with the Public Contract Regulations 2015 and Cabinet Office controls.
Success depends on engaging with colleagues to seek out opportunities to drive additional value and increase efficiency. We will look to you to establish the needs of the business, translate this into effective category-based commercial strategies and deliver these in a way that achieves value for money and improved diplomatic and development outcomes. These are development roles and you will be encouraged and supported in achieving professional accreditation with the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS).
You are likely to have some experience of working in a procurement or contract management environment or a recent graduate with a well-developed commercial sense. You will also demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving abilities and sound project management. Excellent communication and influencing skills are essential. Ready to build effective relationships with stakeholders and suppliers, you will have a willingness to learn and be capable of working with others to achieve continuous improvement and to deliver at pace.
In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a high-quality pension scheme, a minimum of 25 days’ holiday, flexible working and excellent, long-term career development and training.
