Job Details
We’re looking for Commercial Procurement Officers to support our teams in Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) and the Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) on contracts across vitally important projects. If you’ve got big aspirations, our organisation will provide the tools to help you grow, learn, and achieve extraordinary things. That’s why we say, your ambition leads here.
About us
DE&S is an integral part of UK defence. We equip and support the UK’s armed forces as they protect life at home and overseas. As part of this, we procure the newest protective clothing for the front line. We also create smarter tech for intelligence systems. And we make safer, more effective vehicles for land, sea and air. Our Commercial function is home to around 1,000 people. Everyone here is proudly working together to deliver procurement programmes with real-world impact – securing the tools and equipment the armed forces need to do their best, while ensuring compliance and best value for the UK taxpayer.
About the role
As one of our Procurement Officers, you’ll be entrusted with negotiating the terms and pricing for contracts with a value of up to £2.5 million. Using key analytical skills, you’ll scrutinise the defence equipment market, and support the development of new procurement strategies. Attention to detail is vital, as you’ll be developing Invitation to Tender documentation, too. You’ll also use skills in communication to work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including bidders and suppliers, and contribute to wider Commercial function activities.
In role, you’ll be supported to study for a Level 4 qualification with the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS). We’re pleased to fund this, and allow time out for study leave. We’ll also support you to develop leadership skills, and to undertake relevant courses for defence procurement.
About you
To be successful in your application, you’ll need to demonstrate experience in drafting Invitation to Tender documentation; experience in tender evaluation, negotiation and placement of contracts; and experience of communicating effectively with stakeholders.
The benefits
When you join DE&S, you’ll enjoy a generous employer pension contribution of around 27%. You’ll benefit from a clear career path with plenty of opportunities for progression. As well as access to specialist training and funded professional qualifications, you can expect plenty of support from colleagues and mentors. And you’ll be welcome to join a wide range of employee networks, including the Women’s Inclusive Network, Race & Culture Network, Pride Network, Disability Network, and more. We recognise that the best people for the job may have commitments outside of work, so we’re pleased to promote flexible working to support our colleagues in balancing work and home life.
Due to the secure nature of our work, some roles will be open to UK Sole Nationals only. Please be aware some attendance to site will be required for these positions, and note that our salaries are currently under review and may increase.
