MMU are a great modern university in a great global city, we have a driving ambition to discover and disseminate knowledge, to make higher education accessible and beneficial to all those with the passion and ability to succeed.

Since 2006, we have invested £350 million into our exceptional campus to deliver our vision of being the best modern university and we continue to achieve and innovate every day.

Our Category Managers work across a wide range of projects, including construction, building and equipment maintenance, building compliance, IT hardware and software, facilities management, business services and catering and play a key role in ensuring that the University achieves value for money on its purchases and contracts in terms of cost, quality and sustainability, as well as ensuring compliance with internal and external procurement regulations.

As a Category Manager you will take responsibility for a specific category, which requires a good understanding of category spend patterns, suppliers, stakeholder management, capacity planning and tendering of contracts. Based in Procurement Services you will work with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver a seamless procurement process that meets strategic objectives, ensures full compliance with UK regulations and delivers substantial cost savings and benefits.

Your track record of demonstrating value for money and service improvement should speak for itself and you should be capable of influencing buyer behaviours including routes to market, the procurement process and expected outcomes.

Your skills and experience should include:

  • strong analytical and contract management skills
  • experience of managing complex projects.
  • Knowledge of the Public Contract Regulations would be an advantage but not essential, but you will certainly be familiar with evolving legislation and best practice
  • the use of eProcurement systems
  • CIPS membership would be an advantage,
  • This is initially a 12-month Maternity Cover role, which has the potential to become permanent as part of our strategic planning.

Manchester Metropolitan University is committed to supporting the rights, responsibilities, dignity, health and wellbeing of staff and students through our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.

We promote applications from all sections of the community, irrespective of background, belief or identity, recognising the benefits that a diverse organisation can bring. We particularly encourage applications from Black and Minority Ethnic candidates, who we recognise are underrepresented in this area.

Hybrid working is offered for this role, where you will be able to work a proportion of time on campus and a proportion remotely.  We recognise the benefits and importance of an environment that supports flexible working and are open to conversations throughout the application process.
