Protecting animals, protecting our commercial interests
Who we are
At the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA), an Executive Agency of Defra, we safeguard animal and plant health for the benefit of people, the environment and the economy.
The challenge we face
We’re involved in a diverse range of supplier contracts and service delivery agreements, with both internal and external partners. We rely on our contract experts to oversee their management and governance and ensure we achieve value for money. The team works with contracts from across every Directorate within the Agency, including corporate contracts that are used by multiple teams.
What you’ll be doing
This is an opportunity to expand and extend your contract management experience in a dynamic government environment. Working with your own portfolio of service delivery contracts, you will manage commercial and contractual relationships, monitoring risks and issues as well as operational and financial performance. In addition, we’ll look to you to provide support and advice to internal colleagues in relation to procurement procedures. You will also participate in contingency planning for response to disease outbreaks and other emergency situations.
What you’ll bring to the role
You’re likely to have experience in contract management or procurement, including an advanced understanding of contract management principles and legislation. The ability to build good working relationships with suppliers and customers is critical, along with demonstrable commercial acumen and negotiation skills. Highly organised, with strong attention to detail, you’ll have the ability to maintain thorough records and produce comprehensive reports. Proficiency in Excel and Outlook is essential.
What you can expect
We offer a range of benefits including a generous leave allowance, flexible working options, and a Civil Service pension.
