As the General Lighthouse Authority for England, Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar we deliver reliable, efficient and cost-effective aids to navigation such as lighthouses, lightvessels, buoys and radio navigation, ensuring thousands of mariners navigate their way safely around the UK’s busiest waters. Proud of our reputation afforded to us by many centuries of dedication to the nation’s maritime infrastructure, we are a forward-thinking organisation with the ability to meet new demands and the changing requirements of the modern mariner.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual with previous experience in purchasing to join the Procurement team as an Assistant Procurement Specialist.  Your primary purpose, under guidance and training, will be to support and deliver the professional Purchasing objectives to satisfy the needs of the business.

You will show a keen desire to learn new skills within the Buying function of a busy Procurement and Inventory Department and be willing to study towards the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) Diploma in Procurement and Supply.  You will be A Level qualified, or qualified to CIPS Advanced Certificate and have excellent administrative and IT skills, including a thorough working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. As a member of the Buying team you will be able to work with your peers but have the skills to work on your own initiative as your procurement knowledge develops.

You will be involved in delivering and supporting a range of purchasing requirements and supporting larger procurement projects. You will learn how to develop and write procurement strategies, invitations to tender and tender evaluation reports, until you are running your own tenders within set processes and procedures to the required legislative and Trinity House standards and practices. This will require an exemplary level of attention to detail. You will possess excellent communication skills and be able to liaise with internal customers, external suppliers and other General Lighthouse Authorities.
