Job Summary

To support our extraordinary teams who build great products and contribute to our growth, we’re looking to add a Purchasing Manager located in the UK for Remote work.

 

Purpose of the job

 

We are seeking an experienced purchasing and supply chain professional, with a minimum of 5 years in a Supply Chain management role preferably from within a manufacturing type environment.

 

Reporting to the Senior Director of Supply Chain, the Procurement Manager’s role will be responsible for the management and support of 2 primary organisations within the UK, an internal business and an external customer where supply chain management support is a key requirement to ensure our growth plans. This role will cover all aspects of Supply Chain Management.

 

What a typical day looks like:

  • Create and implement a global supply chain strategy in support of the Global program that is synchronized with the Flex global procurement strategy.  Drive best industry practices within all Flex divisions and the supporting supply base.
  • Implement programs to maintain the lowest possible total system inventory exposure, reducing risk for both Flex and the customer.
  • Leverage Flex‘s Global Commodity Management organization in support of strategic procurement initiatives.  Consolidate input from commodity managers, site materials management, and personal efforts for presentation to the customer.
  • Implement programs for cost reduction and lead-time reduction within the supply chain.  Measure and report on project status internally, and to the customer.  Support Design Services Procurement Manager (DSPM) activities for new programs for specific Global customers.  Provide forward price projections, as required.
  • Develop and implement programs to maximize schedule flexibility, while minimizing inventory exposure and maintaining performance to cost targets.  Support Flex sites on critical expedites requests.
  • Direct customer quotation requirements.  Interface with Flex Quotation Group during the quotation process to ensure all costed Bills of Material are competitive, support the defined supply chain strategy, and minimize Flex exposure to inventory not in-line with quoted pricing.
  • Lead purchasing activities associated with site New Product Introduction efforts.  Complete line item source awards, new supplier development, and item-master upload databases.
  • Maintain compliance with corporate, and facility policies and procedures.  Ensure the highest ethical standards of integrity and professionalism are adhered to in the procurement process.

 

The experience we’re looking to add to our team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience and training. A Master's, MBA degree or CIPS qualified is preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years of supply chain management experience or related field.

  • Demonstrates advanced functional, technical and people and/or process management skills as well as customer (external and internal) relationship skills. Demonstrates expert knowledge of the function and a thorough understanding of Flex and related business.

  • Impacts the long-term (annual) direction and financial or operational success of the organisation. Approves and/or creates functional processes or technologies. Establishes and ensures effective achievement of functional strategic plans and objectives for the site. May have P&L responsibility for the function. Develops plans for structuring and implementing major initiatives.

  • A proven negotiator is essential

  • Ability to present to a “C” level audience

  • The ability to strategise and plan ahead critical

  • Recognizes and develops talent as a key element of executing operational business plans. Ensures Flex values are part of site work life. Provides strategic leadership for the function.

Technical competency :

  • The ability to understand and read engineering drawings

  • A clear understanding of manufacturing processes for both SMT and mechanical components

  • Secondary process understanding and knowledge to be demonstrated i.e. finishing of components and the processes involved

  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing an advantage

 

Geographical knowledge for:

  • Knowledge of supply bases for both EMEA, LATAM and Asia for mechanical components

  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing supply bases preferable

 

Systems and Internal Processes knowledge:

  • A full end to end understanding of the process for ERP/MRP

  • Experience of managing the whole process of material supply essential

  • Participates with other senior managers in establishing corporate strategic plans and objectives.

  • Drives supply chain management strategies to deliver customer requirements and maintain Flex's financial competitiveness.
