Are you looking for a fast-paced procurement role within a growing organisation?

If so, the Assistant Procurement Officer role provides an exciting opportunity to join a fantastic new team here at Drax where you’ll support the important role Procurement has to play as Drax executes its strategy to be a carbon negative company by 2030.

About the role

In this role you’ll be assisting in the delivery of the operational procurement framework in a busy commercial environment. You’ll play a key role within the team, developing and implementing different sourcing strategies to maximise value whilst ensuring the right level of governance is applied through every stage of the sourcing process.

This is a fast-paced role, which requires accuracy and working to tight deadlines. Ensuring compliance to policies and procedures will enable you to drive commercial success in your role while assisting in the delivery of an effective procurement service to the business.

Reporting to the Procurement Specialist and ultimately the Head of Procurement you’ll be part of the successful delivery of the overall procurement team goals. Day-to-day you'll be responsible for all aspects of the Source to Contract cycle while considering risk and cost for procurement up to a value of c.£500k annually, per procurement/project. You’ll also assist with the development and implementation of sourcing strategies to maximise value, whilst ensuring the right level of governance is applied.

Here at Drax we work collaboratively with our internal colleagues, so you’ll work closely with the Supplier Relationship and Procurement Performance teams, to ensure procure to pay processes and policies are operating effectively to drive overall best value for Drax.

Drax is committed to developing its colleagues and in this procurement role we’d be happy to support World Contracting & Commerce certification (previously IACCM) and CIPS membership.

About you

You may have already worked in a busy Procurement department or be looking for your first procurement role. Whichever it is, we’d like you to be able to demonstrate commercial awareness and be comfortable negotiating with suppliers.

The ability to provide prompt, efficient and personalised service to internal customers at all levels is imperative, to ensure that their needs are met, and productive relationships are built and maintained. You should also have the confidence to proactively challenge stakeholders and their requirements to drive the best outcome for Drax.

It is key that you are a self-starter with a ‘can do/will do’ attitude who has the energy, drive and commitment to make things happen and the ability to work collaboratively across teams and geographies to form alignment. The ability to identify key opportunities for Procurement support and prioritise workload effectively is essential.
